The Autonomous Region of the Balearic Islands comprises four provinces, the
islands of Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. From the steep
Majorcan peaks of the Sierra de Tramontana, the wide variety of habitats in
Álbufera Nature Park in Mahón (Minorca), the enchanted landscapes of Ibiza’s
Ses Salines, to the long sand spits of Formentera, Balearic geography
presents many different settings for enjoying its peaceful coves, crystalline
waters, and mild climate.
Ibiza is on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to the many vestiges of ancient
civilisations that settled the area, since the island became a frequent rest
stop for the different exchange routes between East and West. The
Balearic Islands have a Mediterranean climate, with moderate temperatures
year-round.
